On a number of occasions, mails that we sent to others are not supposed to be sent. We realize this after sending the mail, but then, there is nothing that we can do except being remorseful. A sent mail is like the bullet that has been fired from the gun. Once you have sent it, you can’t recall it. This is what people used to believe until they found the option to recall the messages. That is what we are going to discuss in this blog post that how you can recall emails easily.
It is a well-known fact that emails are integral part of our lives. We use emails on a daily basis, as our most of the work is dependent upon emails. But, have you ever given a thought that what will happen if you send an email that was not supposed to send. Well, you will feel regretful because now, you will have to deal with the response of the recipient. Recalling emails is possible, and you can do it by enabling certain options in your email account. I would also like to mention that recalling an email is a complicated process as it involves the working of two email servers, one server that you are using to send the mail and another one, which is recipient is using on his/her side.
Gmail, one of the most popular email service providers has the feature of recalling of the mail. The feature is not a standard feature, so you are not going to see it at once. You will have to activate this feature in order to use it. Just go to settings option and you will be able to find the option on how to undo the sent messages. But, this feature only works if you have just sent an email and you are seeing the mail sent confirmation notification on the screen as well. The option of ‘undo message’ will appear right next to ‘view message’ option. So, if you are using Gmail, then this option is not that distant to you. Just enable the option and you will be able to use this feature on a regular basis.
If in case, you are not using Gmail, but using MS Outlook on MS Exchange Email Server, even then, you have the option to recall your emails at will. You have to go into the settings in order to bring your sent email back. When you initiate this command, then the emails will be deleted from the inbox of the recipient’s mail account. But again, this is not the standard feature in the Microsoft Outlook. Moreover, many things are relied upon the mail server, as your email account and the recipient email account is going to be controlled by the mail server.
Coming back to Gmail again, I would like to mention an important fact about this email service, i.e., you can insert a time delay feature in it, which you can used prior to sending an email. This feature is going to bar the mail from reaching the inbox of the recipient email account, and you can take the necessary action. You can’t say that this is ‘email recall’ feature, but it is more like cancelling email or delaying it. Now, you know how to use email recall feature, but the first thing that you will have to do is, check whether this feature is available with your email service provider or not. If it is not, then you won’t be able to use it. But, the feature is quite common, so it will be there in your email service provider.
