Knowing the techniques used by spammers is not enough to avoid spam email, as you also need to equip yourself properly in order to counter their spamming activity. Below I reveal some “tricks” that you can put in place just to protect yourself.
Create spam filters
Creating spam filters can help you significantly reduce the number of unwanted messages to your e-mail inbox. The solutions offered by many clients, in fact, allow blocking the reception of messages intercepted by the filters set by the user.
Some filters are so “intelligent” that they block all messages from a specific sender, from a specific provider and even all those that contain within them certain words (for example terms alluding to or referable to websites for adults).
Note: These filters do not always work 100%, but they will certainly help to mitigate the problem of spam a little.
Report unwanted emails
Also reporting unwanted emails is important to avoid receiving new ones. Therefore, before deleting a spam message, mark it as unwanted. The procedure to follow to do this varies depending on the mail service being used, but usually, it is sufficient to find the appropriate option in the client menu or the webmail service in use (e.g. Report as spam, Move to spam, Flag as spam, etc.).
Obviously, should you continue to receive a high number of spam emails from a specific sender, contact your provider in order to solicit the latter’s intervention.
Unsubscribe from newsletters
Unsubscribing from newsletters is another trick you can take to avoid receiving new spam emails, especially if they come from a particular website and maybe you signed up by consenting (unwittingly) to sign up for the newsletter.
To unsubscribe from a newsletter, you must first open the message that was sent to you on your email address, scroll to the page that is shown to you, locate the link at the bottom necessary to proceed with the cancellation and click on it. That’s all.
Use temporary emails
If you want to avoid spam, I also recommend you use temporary emails, especially when you sign up for online services that don’t seem very recommendable. Temporary emails, as their name suggests, are “disposable” email addresses that allow you to preserve your privacy and your primary email inbox.
To use a temporary email address, type the first part of your temporary email address in the text field Choose a Temporary Email Address and click on the Check email to check the messages in the inbox.
By default, emails are automatically deleted after 8 days, but you can also do this manually by clicking on the red (X) located at the top.
Many other services allow you to create temporary emails, so you can choose according to your personal preference. If you are able to ward off spam emails from your email account after following these methods, then that solved the purpose of writing this tutorial. If not, then you should consult Att Mail Login help and support providers.
